The intellectual property transfer market is now estimated to be worth over $100 billion. Stress-free holidays begin with a plan. Taking time to organize and store holiday decorations according to how, when and where you use them will greatly relieve the agony of pulling down a multitude of boxes from the attic and wondering where to begin. When the holidays are over our natural tendency is to quickly dismantle the tree, pack the decorations and get those boxes in the attic-out of sight, out of mind and the faster the better. However, with a little planning, next year just might be different. The first step is to review all the holiday items you have accumulated over the years. Did you use it this year? Did you use it last year? Does it work with your décor? Will you ever use it again? Keep only those items that add pleasure and beauty to your home. Recycle or toss the others. Now you are left with those items that you truly enjoy. Plan to store them carefully and logically. Purchase sufficient plastic bins or use large packing boxes. Be sure you have enough boxes to store all your decorations. Remember to pack related items together-tree ornaments in one box, window lights and extension cords in another, wreaths and table ornaments in another, table cloths and doilies in another. Label each box on the top and on the side according to its content. Then number the boxes in order of use. Box #1 might contain the wreaths and supplies, wooden decorations, books and recipes for the holidays. These are the first items that will be used in the holiday season and the last items to be put away. Box #2 may contain the window lights with necessary extension cords attached. Box #3 could be the tree ornaments and box #4 might be packed with the tablecloths, placemats and doilies. The decorating process next year can be done in stages as one box at a time is brought down from the attic and the items lovingly displayed. Plan to enjoy the decorating process as well as the un-decorating. Savor the holiday joy as you slowly and methodically put away the remnants of the blessed holiday season.
