Is your home office in need of some help? You have plenty of time to plan ahead for the upcoming holiday...
Saturday, March 24th is National Organize Your Home Office Day. To help you 'celebrate' this holiday we have compiled a list of things you could do:
1. Take a few hours to sort through your existing files and purge any paperwork that is no longer needed. Keep in mind that 80% of the papers that we file are never looked at again!
2. How would you like to cut down on incoming junk mail? Check out our March Hot Tip at http://www.perfectlyputaway.bigstep.com.
3. Do you find yourself always looking for your scissors (that are in the kitchen), tape (in with your wrapping supplies) or a pen (which always seem to disappear)? Stock up on supplies that are specifically for your office. Buy a stapler, an extra pair of scissors and an entire box of pens!
4. Catch up on all of your filing and make it a goal to start filing on a regular basis. Need help dealing with incoming mail? Check out our article "Buried by Mail" at http://www.perfectlyputaway.bigstep.com.
5. Make an index of your filing system. This will make it easy to evaluate your current filing system and see if you need to update or modify your categories.
6. Take a look at your office equipment. If you have an outdated printer and are considering adding a fax, copier or scanner, then check out the new 4-in-1 machines. You can save space and money by getting one machine to do it all.
7. Buy a box of manila folders and computer labels. Replace all of your existing files with brand new file folders and typed out labels. 8. Use this day to thoroughly clean your office. Wipe down your monitor, get all of the dust and crumbs out of your keyboard and mouse, vacuum/sweep the floor, organize your desk drawers and empty out the garbage.
9. Take inventory and stock up on your computer supplies. This will avoid last minute trips to the office supply store and paying full retail. Watch for sale prices on printer paper, backup ink cartridges, diskettes and CD's.
10. Splurge and hire a professional organizer for a few sessions. You can work with them to come up with a complete paper management system.
